Spring Skiing at Red Lodge Mountain

By
Education & Training

It was a beautiful sunny day in Red Lodge, Montana.  I decided to get my skis, boots and poles and head out to Red Lodge Mountain for some spring skiing.  After a short 5 mile drive from the south of the town of Red Lodge, I arrived to the following entrance sign.

Another mile and I made it to the parking area where there was plenty of places to park.   This is the view that was awaiting me from the parking area.

After a quick walk I was at the chair lift and without waiting, I was on my way up and headed towards a great day of skiing.

I got to the summit and could not resist to take this shot displaying the shadow of the big pulley of the chairlift.  The mountain is great for skiing as well as for snowboarding.

I had heard the previous week that the Palisades ski lift was open for the first time in 3 years and could not wait to make my way to this side of the mountain, to test it out for the first time during this ski season.  The following photo shows the view of this side from the top.

Here is a photo of me using the timer feature on my camera.   I had 10 seconds to make my way down to be in the photo.  The hard part was walking back up with my skis on to get back to the camera and pick it up.

Down the Palisades side once, I could not wait to get back on the chair lift for more.

Those are the tip of my skis.   They are Rossignol skis and they also have skied on the mountains near Montreal, Canada.

The following is a view of the Palisades from the ski lift.  Isn't this a beautiful view?

This is what the Palisades ski lift looks like as seen from the first (quadruple) chair lift I took.  Did I mention that I was excited that it was finally open to the public?

Better get ready to dismount!   I am next!!!

Gerry at Red Lodge MountainI had a great day skiing at Red Lodge Mountain.  There was no line-ups.  It's like having your own private mountain.  The ski lift ticket prices are very reasonable (I bought my tickets in advance via a package called 6-tix and the price came to $35 per day, how great is that?) and the views (you can be the judge by looking at my photos) are incredible.  Here are a couple more if you need any more convincing.

There are still two days of skiing/snowboarding left at Red Lodge Mountain on Saturday April 18 and Sunday April 19 (lift tickets will be discounted for both theses days: adults and juniors $30 and children $10).  I plan to be back one more time before the ski season is over.

I leave you with one final photo taken from the chair lift where you can see the town of Red Lodge in the background (a few inches down on the left and right sides from the tree top).

Debra,

Thank you for being the first to comment.  I sure was a fabulous day and I skied a lot (I am still feeling my quadriceps this morning).

Jackie,

You are welcome.  I love spring skiing and I could not have asked for a better day to ski.  You know as much as I do about how lucky we are to have the beautiful Montana scenery.

Mary,

You are welcome.  Believe it not my camera was unharmed and still in one piece by the end of the day despite being with me the whole day on the ski slopes.  I am glad that you felt like you were there with me on Red Lodge Mountain.   You got to love the technology and thank you to ActiveRain to be able to share this wonderful experience with the online community.

Paul,

Thank you for visiting this post and for the positive feedback.
