With a land mass of almost 14,000 km² and an estimated population of over 330,000, the Bahamas actually has the third highest per capita income in the western hemisphere after the United States and Canada. This is mostly due to the prominence of a little industry called tourism.
If you love dolphins (like I do!), you should definitely check out theDolphin Discovery Center on Grand Bahamas Island. Some of these dolphins were used in the movie Cocoon. Or, if the weather isn't cooperating, head over to the world famous Atlantis Hotel on Paradise Island and dine amongst Hammerhead sharks and giant sting rays in the world's largest aquarium.
There is no ferry system on the Bahamas. So, do some trip planning beforehand to either rent a boat or just take a hike around the island.
