I am keeping a business journal on my daily activities in real estate and I am learning a lot about myself.
I understand the importance of documenting everything. when it comes to a transaction, but I wanted to really understand what on earth do I do in one day in real estate. So, I bought myself a note pad and began writing everything down.
I have become more focused on what I do while I am wearing my hat as a Realtor. It is amazing how much I am getting accomplished by just paying attention to my actions.
Our office is full of life, everyone enjoys spending time together. So, it is difficult at times to stay focused. I decided I wanted to know what I did in a full day of real estate.
I learned that the majority of my communication is via email, and texting. I spend 90% of my time on the internet when I am in the office. I have grown to appreciate www.topproduceronline.comand how I use this inexpensive tool to document what activities I have with my clients. I now understanding the value of time...how long it takes to write a hand written note to a past client, and how long it takes to write this blog. I am now in control! I now know how long an actual listing presentation takes me, how long it takes me to write an ad for the paper, and how long it takes me to post a listing on www.craigslist.com, or www.postlets.com.
Time is money, and now I know that I need to spend less time visiting with my friends, and focus more energy on following up with past clients, future prospects, servicing my sellers and spending more time with my family.
Start a business journal today, it may be the best investment you ever made. It is a business decision you will not regret.
