List to get out the door post

Why is it that when I am backing out of my garage, I suddenly remember 2 necessary items I needed to take with me?

Today, it happened to both my husband and myself.  We had to stop the car and both get out and run in the house and pick up what we forgot, me some postcards to mail, him the Netflix to put in the mail.  We just organized our departure from the house to include these items, we just didn't get out the door with them, the first time.

  • Make sure I have my phone
  • Make sure I have my laptop
  • Make sure I have a coat
  • Make sure I put the dog out
  • Make sure I have my coffee cup

Check, check check!!!  It's a long way back home, and a waste of gas if I don't get this right.  Could this be age?  Too much input?

Too much on the mind for sure.  I have done that as well.  I set everything close to the door so I can pick it up on the way out.

I don't think it's age, but it could be in my case.  Mostly I think it's just a function of all the "stuff" we carry in our heads.  Sounds as if you live out of town just as I do. When I'm planning a trip, I put a Postit note on the kitchen bar and add to it as I think of things I need to take with me.

Angelia--By the door, by the purse, I gotta just keep trying

John--I am a great fan of postit's  (have you seen the movie Romi and Michelle's High School Reunion?).  My daughter has adopted the postit phenomenon as well, her college dorm room is covered with them.

I am a huge listmaker.  What I hate is, it takes me two trips to unload the van when I get home....with my kids' backpacks, shoes, my purse, my briefcase, my water bottle, etc etc.  How come I can take all that to the car in one trip but it takes me two to get it all out?

Kimberly--the reason you only have one trip in the am and 2 in the pm is, based on my experience with 4 kids, that your superwoman cape get wrinkled during the day and needs to get back to the home base for freshening!

Vickie and Luke--I also wonder why when my techno gizzmo's keep getting smaller I seem to need more of them?

In  my case I call it 'Old timers disease'. There's a turn around driveway about a half mile from the house, that I use way too often.

there should be an alarm in your purse that goes off every time your cell phone gets more than 15 feet away from you.  And I know you're not old, since I am older and still quite young at heart!
