My city lives in Los Angeles, and all you ever hear her talking about during the winter month is "having to go to Mammoth to ski". It seems like many LA dwellers trek to mammoth in rain, sleet or snow when the winter weather is blaring.
As mentioned, Mammoth, CA is a skier's paradise. Plus, it's closeness to many major California cities makes it extremely popular during a down economy. Since most people are traveling close to home to vacation, Mammoth is much cheaper than flying to Colorado, Utah or the Northeast.
But, there's more to do in Mammoth than just skiing. Explore the town and stroll amongst the many shops that line the streets. Stay in a Mammoth vacation rental and sip some hot cocoa while you wait for your friends to join you. Or bring the kids and build a few snowmen and just relax a bit.
