Practice runs can avoid embarrassing moments

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker David Steven Company

I like taking practice runs to avoid getting lost, learning land marks, and to avoid being late.  I have even done a practice run to test out a supra key! Yet it seems there is always the exception, and today I learned the hard way.

I met with a nice couple eager to see a potential home early in the morning.  All was going well. We spoke about our pleasant weekend and drove to our destination.  I opened the combo lock box and retrieved the key, just eager to have them step inside.  I unlocked the bottom lock and then tried the top lock.  I could see us writing up the offer... and then it all came to an abrupt end, like a scratched lp record.  I jiggled, pulled, and twisted, all to no avail.  I was quick to apologize, excused myself, and proceeded to call the listing agent for further instructions.  Of course, he was destined to not answer.

If I only would have done the practice run, oh how i wish I had!  What a way to start a week!

I remembered when that happened to me. I thought to myself OK this should be easy. Just like in high school. (Yeah right) Turn it to the left twice, then right and left again...or is it? I embarrassingly called the listing agent a couple times on instructions. 10-15 minutes still trying. Frustrated and ready to give up. Amazingly without seeing what I had done to open the darn thing. Out came the key. Its the combo locks I wont be able to forgive. Its not easy! For me at least. Then here goes my buyers chuckling their way in. Oh what an ordeal that was for me. Luckily my buyers were a relative of mine. Phew!

Well we all have to learn some way, some how, right?
