Hoop It Up - 3 On 3 Basketball Tournament in Arlington Texas

Hoop It Up.. Have you heard of it?  I am sure you have seen a commercial or perhaps you have even participated in this event.  No?  Well, this is a 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament that travels the states.  This tournament is open to any man or woman from the age og 8 to the age of 99.

There are several divisions so that you can compete against other participants within the same skill level.  Hoop It Up even has a 'Top Flight' division for those who have above average skills.

Personally, I stick with the 30 and over group.  Depending on who I am playing with, I rotate between 'over 6 feet' and 'under 6 feet'.  There is nothing I hate more than playing against 3 guys who are all 6'8".

This weekend (April 25 & 26) the tournament is in Arlington Texas.  Typically, they courts are spread out in the parking lot of Rangers Stadium, which is also only about 4 minutes from the new Dallas Cowboy Football Field.

If you are interesting in participating in the Hoop It Up Tournament, visit their website www.HoopItUp.com.  Its a little late to play this weekend as registration ended tonight, but typically there is another tournament in June.  Its just a tad bit warmer in June, but on the blacktop it feels like 100+ degrees no matter what the real weather is like.

I have been looking forward to this tournament since last year.  We have a solid 3 guys who made it to the Quarter Finals and really feel we can win it this year.  What do you win?  If you finish in the top 4 within your division, you qualify to play in the World Tournament played in Orlando Florida.  We qualified last year, but it was not the best time to spend money traveling to Florida for a tournament.  Ultimately, I think you win $20,000 or something.  I am not really positive.  I've been playing in thei tournament since I was a kid and although we have qualified for the finals a few times, I've never made the trip.  LOL

Who knows... maybe there are other tournament players within the AR Community.  Anyone?

I love Hoop It Up!!!

It makes a stop in Spokane WA every summer and it's crazy......basketball courts all over town! Can you use a 6'2" slasher that is way past his prime? :-)

Hi John, I don't think we have had Hoop It Up here in San Antonio.  Maybe I just didn't notice.  Sounds like a lot of fun.

This sounds like it would be a lot of fun. I haven't played basketball in years.

I played twice in Seattle and once in Portland during late 90s.  We reached to the division final and lost to a team called "Black Street" in Portland(We never got within final 4 in Seattle since there were more good players there).  It's like the amateur basketball summit and you see exciting plays every second..

Love to read about events in Arlington that I can pass on to my daughter - she travels so much, I know she misses a lot of these things because she just doesn't know about them.

Bob - I can always use a player.  Seems the older I get, the more players I lose.  Those young guys just dont want to play with me anymore.  I am the type of guy that will actually travel to play in this event because I still have a good time.

Shirley - You actually do have a Hoop It Up there each year.  I believe this year it is there in late May or Early June.

JL - Its a lot of fun, depending on who the sponsors are.  Sometimes they have cheesy sponsors so there is not much to do there besides play your 4 games.  I like to be entertained while I wait.  LOL

Cooper - I agree there are some divisions that are tougher than others.  I tend to watch the 'Top Flight' division because most of those guys (and gals) are about 6'7" and pretty athletic.  But then there are those other groups that seem to come out just to slap you around. HA

Margaret - I'll be sure to add some more things for you to pass on to your daughter.  Not sure it will always be in Arlington, but it will be in North Texas.  How was your trip by the way?  Did you enjoy Texas?
