By

Tree Hugging is Good!Ok, so I am a bit of a tree hugger... and I need to do something on Earth Day to help save the planet.  Anyone out there looking to do something to help out, but doesn't have the time?  Stopping junk mail catalogs is a huge way to help!

Over 19 billion catalogues are mailed in the United States alone.  That means every man, woman, and child is slated to receive 63 of their very own glossy cataloges this year.  They are all filled with clothes, furniture, and things they never knew they needed until it showed up at the door printed on endless pages.

Stop Junk MailWhere does all the paper come from anyway?  Over 53 million trees are used to produce the 3.6 million tons of paper that produces the junk mail you and I receive everyday.  Some of those catalogs end up in the recycling bin, but most end up in our landfills.

Did you know you can opt out of and manage those junk mail catalogs? Keep the ones you want and stop the ones you don't want.  Catalog Choice is a free service and can help you manage that process from one point of contact.  Take a minute today and follow the link to stop unwanted junk catalogs.

Catalog Choice Link!

I was able to eliminate 15 catalogs!  Let me know how many you were able to eliminate!

And Thank You!

Matthew, we often talk of saving the earth and people yawn. Perhaps we could get their attention if we worded it with more truth. It's really about saving humanity.  Whatever we do to her, earth will survive.  At some point she make shake us off like so many fleas, but earth has already shown the ability to thrive in conditions unfit for humans.  We all need to be aware of the toxic environment we are creating for our future.

Matthew - That is a great tip and I am going to give it a try, thanks for sharing. We have a recycle bin in our mailroom and I often toss everything I receive. What a waste! - Mike

Great blog, yet i think the junk solicitations to "Resident" are killing as many trees.  Take your name off of any list you can find, yet they still come.  Ugh!!

Great post!  I plan on passing the word abut the (catalog choice).  Most of this (in my office) goes directly from the mail drop off-directly to my trash can.  It is a big waste of time as well sorting through the mail to the important items.  This has been a big pet peeve of my for some time.  We need those beautiful trees!
