Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival in Woodburn Oregon

When I moved from Portland down to Salem Oregon, I was worried about leaving all of my big city things to do behind.  Salem is a much slower paced city, despite the fact that it is the state capital.  I did learn to slow down, which was hard, and in the process learned to enjoy many of our local community festivals.

Salem Oregon is surrounded by many smaller cities that have their own unique identity and festival.  Right now, the Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival is going on.  Now, we had a funky spring this year and so the tulips were a little late to pop open this year.  The festival has been extended until May 3rd as a result.

If you haven't been there, there is stuff for the kids to do. They have a cow train, duck races, and slides, and oh yeah...there are one or two flowers to look at while you are there.

If you get a chance head over, support a local festival, and enjoy a little bit of beauty while you are at it.

P.S.  If you see the Aladdin Tulips...those were my favorites.

Melina, Tulips and Daffodils, I SO MISS THEM!!  We are too warm to plant them in the Houston area.  We can plant them every year if we want but that's just too much work.  There's not much I miss about the cold north but I do miss the Tulips and Daffodils.

Hi Melina - Those are some gorgeous shots you took. What vibrant colors the tulips exhibit, and you've captured them beautifully! I love the slower pace we've found here in Southern Oregon, and the many local festivals and events. Appreciate the occasional visit to the "big city" whichever one that might be, but it's always so good to get home.

Karen thanks.  It did take me a while to learn to appreciate the many wonderful community events.  I think having kids makes you realize how great those small festivals are for them.  Such a great sense of community.

Hi Melina - Parades, chili cookoff, tree lighting, cheese/chocolate/wine tasting (okay those are for me, not the kiddo :->) we've enjoyed every one of them, and especially bumping in to familiar faces we may not have seen for a while. Our youngest was thrilled when a close friend found us at the Pear Blossom parade so they could watch together while the adults caught up.
