I was talking with my nephew the other day about school, or rather pre-school. In between listening to him imitate Darth Vader and tell me about his fish, I was struck by how many lessons he really had to offer. I got to thinking about all I learned as a four year old, and how if I lived out those lessons, what a better businessman I would be. Feel free to interpret as you wish.
- Start each day asking, “Do I GET to go to school today?” Followed by, “I am SOOOOO excited, I can hardly wait.”
- Run into your classroom ready for the new adventures of the day.
- Run back to your Mom and give her a big hug and kiss before you play.
- Greet your teachers with high-fives.
- Play with everything you can in the room. Each toy and activity offer you more chances to learn, and more fun.
- Read and read and read and read some more.
- Follow the leads of “Slow Down Snail” and take your time when you are working on something important so it is done right.
- Say you’re sorry to your friends when you hurt their feelings.
- Learn to dot your i’s and cross your t’s.
- Don’t be embarrassed when you are excited by your next activity, or you finally figured out something difficult.
- Snacks are much better when shared.
- Encourage your friends and help them when they are having a hard time.
- Playing is more fun when with friends.
- When you sit in the “thinking chair” figure out what you did wrong and how you can avoid it next time.
- Don’t hem and haw, use your words.
- Follow the routine of the day that is written on the board.
- When it is V.I.K. (very important kid) Day, bring in pictures of your family and tell everyone how great they are.
- When Mom picks you up, give her another big hug and tell her that you missed her.
