We The People...

By
Industry Observer

A lot of people have questions with so few answers about how the people can take back their Government whereas it is once again 'of the people, for the people, by the people.'  Everyone wants to live by the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights.

I read a snippet last night that would put every politician on their heels, open their eyes and start working for the people instead of Corporate and Special Interest Groups.

This is very simple:

Every single register voter should change their registration status to Independent.

Think about it!  The Elephant and Donkey parties will have to pay attention to the people in order to get elected and re-elected.  2 parties keeps us divided.  The masses speaking out will move our country forward.

Second, ALL campaign financing should be public instead of private.

Let's start making the Government work for the people again!

I don't remember how we lost our 3 party system....but it would be nice to have one......one day.  In the interim we just need to get people that represent us and not themselves.  Tough battle, but we can do it in time.  Term limits would do the trick.........

Tony,

In N J you can not vote in the primary unless you register with a party and in my county there really aren't any Democrats, most of the time the only real election is the primary. So although I was registered independant for years I changed a few years back when there was a primary i wanted to vote in and was also considering running in the primary myself.

I think everyone here is a member of at least one special interest group.  The National Association of Realtors spent nearly $20,000,000.00 last year on lobbying efforts.  Mortgage broker associations ,land title associations, appraiser associations, nearly every occupation that has an association.  If you are not in a profession with an association, perhaps you are old, disabled, poor, or any number of catogories you might fit into.  Chances are there are lobbyists working for your interests.

Without people grouping together and hiring somebody to get the ear of the legislators, how would any of us be heard?  They certainly can't meet with us all individually.

By the way, I have a picture up in my profile here but it doesn't show up when I reply to posts.  Does this site block the pictures of us ugly guys to spare the rest of you from having to look at us?

Fernando:  Kind of a contradiction, don't you think.  Despite 'all the problems' our political system is still the best.   So best = problems?

Tim:  Term limits are a great idea.

Terry:  Don't be so negative.  It may happen someday.  The second revolution is going on right now.

Patrick:  The whole point is for our Government to listen directly to the people and not a special interest group.  There are so many of them, that only pocket groups of people are heard.  People do group together but the ultra rich usually win out.

Tony, there are too many forces at work to make that happen, at least in my lifetime.
