Hello Form House of Moses!
I have often said, "We make our plans but God orders our steps." April 27th was a perfect example of that! Knowing that it was my godson's (Gideon) 11th Birthday on April 27th I had made special plans for a party at House of Moses and a gift for him which I carried from the USA. He is the 7th of 8 children and the son of my pastor, Flemings Mtonga and his wife, Violet.
On the morning of the day of the party, I was taking some time alone when I just felt like I needed to share the joy of a birthday celebration with the children at the House of Martha and those children who we know who have no parents. So, I changed the whole plan to include all of the children in the celebration, not singling out Gideon. Many of the children at House of Martha come to us with no real history, many do not know when they were born, or where, and very few have ever had a birthday party or gift of their very own.
I put the challenge to some team members who were with us from the USA, and pretty soon we had enough collected for a big jumping castle, 5 birthday cakes, sandwiches and fruit, and a bag of special small gifts for each of the 91 (yes 91) children.
When it was time to sing Happy Birthday my treat was a surprise visit by my dear friend Uncle G. who was in Lusaka from South Africa and his own wonderful singing group. We prayed for all of the children and told them that each one was special, and God had a plan for their lives. They repeated the words three times...I am Special!!
No one knew that it was Gideon's birthday, (except Gideon, his family and a few of the others of us) but when it came time to blow out the candles on the cakes, Gideon was the one selected as the representative by Mama Nellie, House of Martha's own "mother."
One problem! 91 children now have April 27th as their Birthday!
