I think everyone over the age of 25 with the right mind knows who Suzanne Somers is!! Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that I would have the opportunity to meet her.
Spring of 2008
Just got married, had an excellent paying job with a research company & then BOOM. Company got bought out and lay offs started. As a veterinary technician I was hit with an ultimatum go back to working in a vet clinic for $13/hr or take this as an opportunity and try something new. So I tried something new! I figured being in the vet world for 13 yrs and 3 of them as a tech I though that I could do something more....stimulating and challenging. So I went back to school to take a course that sparked my interest. HOME STAGING. I have always had a passion for decorating and design but it wasn't glaring obvious to me until after I took the course. Graduating from QC Design School with my ISRP (International Staging & Redesign Professional), CC (Colour Consultant), & IOP (International Organizing Professional) all with straight A's I figured that I'm on the right track.
Summer of 2008
Not finding a home staging job or anyone I feel that I could work for I decided to open my own company. Capital Home Staging & Design. Business plans flew, marketing ideas went in and out, budget's got blown, and jobs started coming in. A stressful summer and yet a very rewarding one. Networking with other business & real estate agents helped get my name out there. Performing Staging jobs for many local agents was the most exciting, inspiring, rewarding job ever. Now your probably wondering....rewarding.....really?? no seriously when I put my heart into a job with a goal of having it sell fast and for top dollar and when it does and I see the excitement thought the owners it's really rewarding!

1 year to the day of my schooling inspirations.....
I get a call from Dianna Kelly of DMK Events, My florist I use for my staging jobs has recommended me for Dianna's event. Now.....picture this, the phone rings and I answer in my usual "Capital Home Staging & Design Kristy Speaking" I hear......"Hello Kristy, My name is Dianna Kelly and I am looking for a Stager to stage a room for an event I am setting up for Nutrichem where I need an ugly media room fixed up for Suzanne Somers" ......"Sure no problem, When would you like to meet" Hang up....Call Florist....."Kelly? I got a call from Dianna Kelly......she talking about THE SUZANNE SOMERS????" Kelly confirmed, she's doing the flowers for the event.
OMG OMG OMG, STOP! compose your self Kristy don't go crazy! remember staging an ugly media room is the same as an ugly living room.....right???
Picking out furniture & accessories for the room was easy....until closer to the date and that's when the 2nd guessing your self comes into play....is this right size and colour, should i swap this out for that.... etc Remember EVERYONE NEVER 2nd GUESS YOUR SELF All is right from the start!
April- Spring 2009
The day has come.
My Rental items are late......by 1 hr which leaves me 45 min to bring in the inventory, assemble items not assembled, stage it and then accessorize it. My Events lady is giving me the....."this isn't going to be a problem is it?" Eye. No! I can do it do not fear!
PHEW, finished with minutes to spare, the caterers arrive and set up there food and leave.
12pm Suzanne Arrives.......Walking in with her "posse" in a beautiful trench like coat but lady like it's quite mesmerizing. She's sooo tiny, so cute, so power full!......................................1pm Event starts & Suzanne does her talk on wellness and eating right.....making me feel bad for squeezing in a Mc. Donalds cheeseburger prior to her arrival.
Event Over
Meet & Greet time.....OMG OMG OMG OMG i'm going to faint!......Act professional Kristy, This is a job and you have a level of professionalism to up hold...for all the Stagers of Ottawa, for my reputation for the event's higher powers that are watching...."KRISTY you may come up now and get your photo with Suzanne...."
OMG did I just hear that? ok don't panic, walk up the stairs slowly so you dont fall....slowly, deep breaths so you dont faint....Coming up to the door and ENTER.......
"Suzanne this is the stager that decorated your room." said someone introducing me.
"Oh wow, you did all this thank you so much! it's absolutely beautiful and comfortable, Thank you" Suzanne Said to me....WOW she talked to me, and now I've got my arm around her and were taking our photo together....So Surreal!
Exit the room.
Wow she signed my book, I got a photo with her and she said she absolutely loved the room! This is the BEST Staging day ever! I always believe things happen for a reason, EVERYTHING happens for a reason. So lay offs at a well paying job sucked at the time but it lead to a great new career and exciting events!
