Our Historic District needs to be protected from a potential development that could impact your property values and significantly change the fabric of our community.
The Historic House at 340 - 344 Brewster Street was purchased by a developer who knocked down over twenty trees - with Mayoral support wanted to demolish the house. Now they propose to build THREE CONDOMINIUM buildings at the back of the Historic property, accessed via the existing three car garage at the front of the house with a fire access to the left of the house and restore the house.
In addition they are deliberately letting the structurally sound house decline and refuse to maintain the landscaping. A blight notice has been served but the City will not give us any information on the status of this. This developer also has other interests downtown.
We need your help with - two things:
Send emails to the mayor and some of our politicians and community leaders expressing your opposition to this proposal requesting an update on the Blight application (see below).
- Voice your concern, attend the FIFTH Historic District Commission Meeting on Tuesday, May 5th at 6pm, City Hall, 45 Lyon Terrace, Bridgeport ,

Title/Subject Line: Opposition to application by Brewster Street Partners, LLC for 340 - 344 Brewster Street
On Tuesday 5th May, the Historic District will hear a petition for Brewster Street Partners, LLC for 340 - 344 Brewster Street to construct 3 new buildings at the rear of this site in addition to restoring the house. This is their FIFTH application for this site.
We the taxpayers and residents of Black Rock wish to oppose this request in its current form. We insist that you uphold the historic district requirements and reject this application as:
- We want City Hall and the Zoning Boards to properly manage the land use regulations and will NOT tolerate give always to developers which detract, rather than add value to our neighborhood.
- This is a single family house with an odd shaped lot that needs to be restored by a caring and responsible homeowner who wishes to coexist with the community.
- Historic properties and historic districts must always be protected. If a house or district is "designated" we should support the preservation as it creates value for our homes
- This dense property will be viewable from the street and will significantly change the surrounding area
- There is no precedence to access properties via a garage in the surrounding area. One of the Historic District Commissioners has a concern about safety and practicality of accessing and exiting, removal trucks will be unable to get in.
- We want the City to provide us with details on the Blight charges against this property owner.
- Please submit this record to the file to be reviewed by Historic District
- Resident Name
- Address (This is important but optional)
Thank you for your participation.
