Mothers Day hasn't always been a national holiday. It wasn't until the 20th Century that President Woodrow Wilson declared the first National Mothers Day in 1914. History suggests that Anna Jarvis, the daughter of a West Virginia Sunday School teacher who fought for better working conditions for woman during the Civil War played a great part in establishing this holiday.

Anna held annual gatherings called "Mother's Friendship Day",she campaigned hard for a National celebration of mothers. On May 10,1908 at Andrews Methodist Church a celebration took place,of course 6 years later we had a national holiday.

Of course, today there are several wonderful ways to celebrate Mothers Day, Corbel's in Leonardtown is having a Mother's Day Brunch with a free Mimosa for Moms. Sounds great to me. If your thinking about giving Mom flowers then Carolina jasmine or an old fashion hyacinth, which is a classic climbing flower that can reseed itself are always welcome. The blooms will remind her how much her family loves and cherishes her.To all Mothers I wish you a great Mother's Day.
