Horse Cents

I've never owned a horse, but I can if I want to, and that's important to me!

I bought my first horse property in 1993, I was so excited!  Irrigated acreage, fenced, live water year round, it doesn't get much better than that!  I just never got around to buying my own horse, and all of the other stuff that goes with it!  Instead I boarded some horses for other people, and rode around using their equipment (cheaper and nearly as rewarding).

It would be better for me, (the owning a horse part) if my husband wanted horses, but he doesn't, he wants cattle and sheep.  So instead of getting on a horse up in the mountains, I have to lug my sorry ass up the hills under my own power.  This means that I'm burning my own hay!!

Now as I look around at all of that grass, I hate the thought of mowing or bailing it.  I think we should get that darn fence up and then start looking around for a different type of hay burner.  Then I could enjoy all of the other things that go along with being a responsible horse owner, it's not cheap, but it must be fun.

Having owned horses for many years I would suggest you get a four wheeler.

Are there alot of liability issues to board someone else's animal?  Do they have to have access 24/7?

I have the same fantasy of owning horses!! I used to compete jumping as a child.  Thanks Jennifer

Hi Richard, the four wheeler doesn't need a babysitter when I go on vacation, that's for sure!

Jennifer, I am not in the boarding business, I just had a lot of grass and people who have horses always seem to find you to help with the mowing.  Hope some day the fantasy becomes a reality both for you and for myself.

Go for the HORSE!  They are wonderful! My horse of 22 years died last winter and I miss the old boy!
