Moving is very stressful and you are sure to forget something in the process.  Here is a list of 10 things to do before you move to help make your move smooth and stress free.

  1. Change of Address:  Pick up a moving packet from any US Post Office or you can change your address on-line here
  2. DMV:  Make sure your auto registration, driver's license, and insurance records are in an accessible place.
  3. Medical & Dental Records:  Contact your primary care physician, dentist, veterinarian for copies of your records.
  4. School Records:  Contact your child's school or daycare and arrange for their academic and immunization records to be forwarded to their new school.
  5. Bank:  Remember to change your bank if necessary, and or change your contact information.
  6. Auto, Home, & Life Insurance:  Change, transfer, or cancel your coverage depending on your situation.
  7. Prescriptions:  Transfer any current prescriptions to a drug store near your new home.
  8. Delivery Service & Subscriptions:  Cancel or change and services and subscriptions you have such as newspapers and magazines.
  9. Utilities:  Make sure you turn off utilities at your old residence and turn on your utilities at your new residence.  It is a good rule of thumb to have them turned off the day after you move and turned on the day before you move into your new home.
  10. Telecommunications:  Contact your telecommunications company to change or transfer your services to your new address.
