McDonald's Why are You Doing This? Open Letter to Mickey D's . . . are YOU Listening?

McDonald’s Why are You Doing This? Open Letter to Mickey D’s…. are YOU Listening??

McDonalds

To Whom It May Concern:

I have noticed the changes at my local McDonald’s aka Mickey D’s, Golden Arches, American Success Story. The $1.00 menu is almost useless now since the last changes you have made. Where are the sandwiches and chicken nuggets? You just can’t make a meal on apples, yogurt, drinks, ice cream cones, pies, and fries.

Why would you tinker with a menu that has already been proven to work to your advantage? Is it because you heard the interview with Hardees’ CEO saying that they are doing well and they don’t see a need for a $1.00 menu??

Your first quarter earnings this year were up by 3.5%; sounds pretty good considering the industry as a whole, not to forget the economy. While this news was coming out you boasted your success do to your $1.00 menu.

Wonder what your second quarter will look like since most items taken off the $1.00 menu have seen a 27% or more increase? Better yet…How did you keep the media out of this one?

Q

I am ju
st an occasional customer now who is looking for answers.

P.S.: Just wanted to let you know that even though my all time favorite…. the yogurt parfait is still holding on to a space on the $1.00 menu you have decreased the size.

P.P.S.: I understand there are differences in stores throughout the system and most stores have a certain leeway on how to run their own store(s). The example here is my local McDonald’s in Denver, NC.

Teresa, I don't often go to McDonalds (I do like their fish sandwich) so did not realize they had done away with their $1.00 menu.  How sad when people need it the most!!

Once a month when I am driving and have no time to stop I get a craving for McNuggets.  I must say I like the fish equally which is cheaper.

I hope the hot fudge sundae stays on the dollar menu or it is over.

Hi Teresa,

I don't visit much anymore either since my kids are older.  I do love the McFlurry though.  I was actually there twice this week as there is a promotion going on here for FREE COFFEE for two weeks.  It's just a small but I actually like their coffee.

My husband said they got rid of the sandwiches he liked.  Ever evolving I guess.

The menu up here is $1.39 and is as popular as yours.  I recently took my 80 year old Mother (at her request) and she loved the cheeseburger as much as she loved the price.   I'd hate to see them take away ours as it is perfect not only for the little ones, but for my older little one!

My boys are grown now, Teresa so, I always stop in for the iced coffee, which I've noticed has increased in price regularly for the past couple of months--very frustrating.

HOWEVER, I do appreciate you explaining what is going on because my Mickey D's stock, which had been my best performer for the year, has leveled right out lately--could be the $1 menu issue!?!!

Have a wonderful Sunday...

Teresa: Oh the vagaries of McDonalds. I just buy a bunch of Entertainment coupon books and when the coupons run out, I don't go there.

Hi Teresa Sorry to hear this.  I don't do McDs ever.  I just don't like it there myself.

I couldn't wait until my kids got old enough to lose interest in McDonalds.  I haven't been to one, except to use the bathroom, in 10 years.

there have been increases here at our area McDonalds.  Kind of expected but still disheartening.

Hi Teresa, It WILL be interesting to see what their next quarter earnings are???   They have a big campaign going here for the iced coffee.  I'm not sure what the prices are however my son's friend works at the one in our local Walmart, so I'll have to check it out.

I'm with Tom.  It has been a long, long time  BUT I sympathize with what you are saying because it's happening every where.  Maybe your blog post will catch someone's attention.

I get so mad about the $1 menus at the different places changing.  I refuse to get a frosty from Wendy's now that they charge more than $1... remember me post on that?  I think McD still has the double cheeseburger and the 4 count nuggets for $1, but you have to ask them as I rarely see it on the actual menu.

Hi Teresa!  I'm with you I love their yogurt parfait, but up here it used to be $1.99 now it is $2.19...as Jenny said above we did get a treat from McD's of free coffee and it is quite good!

Have a happy Day!

Teresa, Yep it's the yogurt parfait that keeps me going there. I haven't been in a couple of weeks so I don't know if they've changed anything either!

Teresa ~ I am all about the dollar menu at McDonalds as well. I don't know, I just think I am being healthier if I only order something from the dollar menu! LOL! But it is true. My son loves breakfast  so I always get the yogurt parfait as well, it is getting smaller and smaller.

You cannot beat the .50 cent cones in the summer though...they better keep those under a buck!!!

I like the parfaits too although if they get any smaller they might as well make them into a piece of candy.   LOL

Hi Teresa - I read about this recently, actually - Wendy's is struggling because they reduced their $1 menu/raised prices to "value" items....  The $1 menu items at fast food restaurants are low-to-no margin loss leaders, just to get people in the door.  Once there, they tend to get something else....  Plus, restaurants make enormous margins on drinks, so those will stay on $1 menus indefinitely....
