~The Amazing Austin Skyline~

Weekend before last, my husband and I had occasion to drive up IH-35 and through Austin.  I don't remember the last time I was in Austin; it must have been 5 years ago.  As we crossed the bridge over the Guadalupe River and the Austin skyline came into view, I was stunned by the breathtaking sight of all the construction cranes dotting the skyline of our state's capitol city.  It reminded me of the skyline of Houston in Houston's heyday back in the late 1970's and early 1980's.

I had noticed Jason Crouch's post, Austin was the Second-Fastest Growing City in the U.S. for 2007-2008, and thought of that as we passed through Austin.  I would have taken photos of this amazing and unexpected crane forest but my camera was in the trunk of the car so I decided to take pictures on the way back home.

On the way back home, I slept until we got to Round Rock and was too sleepy to have my husband stop so that I could snap photos.  I found a couple of puny-by-comparison Austin crane photos on the internet but this is not what I saw.  What I saw was growth, vitality, prosperity.  Here's to you, Austin!

Shirley, I'm not familiar with the Austin skyline.  Personally I'm not thrilled about the Houston skyline. I think it is kind of boring. Now I love the Dallas skyline.

One of these days I would like to make a trip to San Antonio and actually see the Alamo.  I have not done that yet.  Shame on me.

Austin has changed quicker than I wanted it too!  I was born there and through the years have gone back frequently.  It is certainly more Metro Looking than 35 years ago when I worked in Austin

Hi Shirley,  I know what you mean.  I've been there twice in the past several months and the cranes are all over downtown.  They are putting up condos like crazy and all kinds of businesses too.  It's exciting to see such growth.  I was there a lot in my childhood and we could walk downtown and see from street to street, no more.

Hi Ricki, I sometimes hate to see things change.

Trey, My kids great grandfather owned the old bakery on Congress St. near the capitol.

Bill, We would love to have you come down and visit Texas!

Hi Mary, Thanks! You're a sweetie!

Hi Greg, I used to go all the time when my kids were at UT.

Angelia, As a Texan you need to see the Alamo!

Hi Marcel, I like the view of the Houston skyline from Allen Parkway.

Dale, You should bring Debi down to see Texas.

I have lived here for a decade or more now and I'm fascinated by the changing skyline of Austin, when the Frost bank went up a few years ago it really made an impact on me.  Change is good, so I have heard. :)
