The Wellington Florida PEC homeschool support group meets monthly together to offer support to homeschool families. While the adults enjoy friendshipping and sharing their triumphs and frustrations of homeschooling their children, the kids play on the playground and play games together.
It gives parents a boost to be able to meet monthly especially for those who are new to homeschooling.
In the last meeting we had I met 3 moms who had pulled their children out of public school at the end of the winter break. 2 of the moms had boys that were told they had ADHD and insisted on having their young sons put on drugs. I was really proud of those moms to stand up to the system. The reason that I started homeschooling was because the school had told me that my first born son in Kindergarten had ADD and that if I did not put him on Ritalin then he would no longer be able to go to school. I refused. I then discovered homeschool and have been schooling my children at home every since. That was 24 years ago. Oh, and none of my sons ever were given any drugs for being boys.
We taught our sons to focus by getting them all involved, including my girls, in Tae Kwon Do. They were all very young black belts and most were National Champions and Top contenders for World Championships. In fact, my daughter who works for us, Milet, lost the World Championship Title by one point in her last match for the title. The ability to focus was huge in their lives.
This last month we had the treat of watching a Chinese Lion Dance with authentic Lion costumes from China. The students participating were homeschoolers. Their entire family is involved with the Lion Dance and the Karate that they are learning. Since I owned Tae Kwon Do schools for 15 years I was naturally interested in their performance.
Chinese Lion Dance is many centuries old. Chinese believe the Lion Dance to bring good luck, good fortune and lots of prosperity. Nicki Bruscino is the instructor at Ma Ju Do, Lion Dance Team in Royal Palm Beach Florida. The dojo can be reached at 561-662-5737 or 561-827-7648.
They will come out to do the Lion Dance for weddings, Chinese New Year events, office parties, store openings and more.
