Chameleons, that's what we are. It's difficult to find another career choice that requires the ability to welcome change to the extent that Realtors have to. Look at Ty Murray, who has somehow managed to hop off a 1500 pound bull, kick the "you-know-what" off his boots and mosey onto the ballroom for a waltz on national television. It's quite endearing to see someone willing to show their vulnerability and commit to change and personal growth.
Imagine a left winger for the Bruins having to spend next season as a synchronized swimmer and make it look effortless. That's what my career feels like some days; swimming in hockey equipment and trying to look make it look easy.
Many Realtors are generational, having taken the torch from their parents and spending their entire careers in Real Estate both good times and bad. These professionals will tell you that there is nothing like a good downturn to weed out the riff raff. (I know you all are nodding). There are others how saw an up market as a good time to learn about Real Estate and begin their careers and rightfully so.
For those of us new to and still in this profession, it is this girl's opinion that we are the true professionals. Fast market=Fast money. Slow market=Gut check. Congratulations to those of you who have taken the time to remember the real reasons that you are a Realtor and found that that vision remains in good markets and bad. Buyers and Sellers appreciate your adaptability and how much energy you have put forth to change with their changing needs.
Congratulations to those of you who see nothing but opportunity when change is embraced. Many will look back at 2009 as the year they left the Real Estate industry. But for some, we will see 2009 as one of the greatest and most profitable years of our lives.
