Teach Other Real Estate Agents What YOU Know! Get Certified!

By
Education & Training with Professional Direction

There is no better way to learn, be more effective and grow as a real estate agent than to teach clockhour continuing education classes to other agents! Professional Direction has been training and writing classes for continuing ed in Washington State for the past 16 years.

Are you thinking to yourself.. "I don't know enough."  Or,.. are you thinking... "I can't share my 'secrets' to other agents because I'll lose business."

First of all, if you have actively sold real estate for over 3-5 years then you qualify to be an instructor.  Is that enough knowledge and experience to teach?  Yes, if you have a passion for sharing with other agents what has worked for you.  We all need to learn from each other.  Topics could include time management, working with flaky buyers, dealing with objections or how to fill out a contract.  You have strengths that by sharing you can make a difference in the careers of other real estate agents!

Everytime I teach a real estate class to agents in Washington State I learn something new.  I am there to teach but I am also there in class to learn!  There are days I'll walk out of class and think that maybe I learned more than those sitting in front of me!  I know that I don't have to know everything or have to answer every question.

You will find me teaching classes on Social Networking, Marketing, and Fraud.  I have a tendency to talk "too" much sometimes at parties.. and .. ok.. maybe in classes.  But, I listen carefully to what real estate agents share.  For example, when I started teaching classes on fraud I was worried that I didn't have enough material to fill up three hours.  It took about three classes to collect dozens of examples and stories.  There were scams out there in our industry that I didn't know were happening.

Classes on Social Networking focus on blogging, facebook, twitter, and linked in.  Sometimes agents have never even visited these sites.  Sometimes agents teach me about ways to use the sites more effectively.

I want to be more successful and when I teach I learn how to head in that direction.

Secondly, you will never "lose" business because you shared your "secrets" about some real estate issues.  It's not just the material that you teach about but how you present it along with your own stories.  If you told another agent exactly how you planned a marketing campaign and the agent followed it to a "T" there is no chance that you will lose business.  No one can copy your exactly nor can they "steal" your clients.

When you teach you will have a resume boost when you meet with a seller or a buyer.  Your clients will be impressed that you are certified to teach. That is one other huge benefit!

Ok.. what about you?  Have you ever pictured yourself teaching real estate classes?  In Washington State you need 3-5 years experience in a real estate related field and a two day course called "Instructor Development Workshop."  At the end of the class you apply to the Real Estate Department of Licensing to be certified.

Natalie Danielson has trained probably 80% of those that teach clockhour courses in the state!  She will help you all the way to get certified teaching the Instructor Workshop once or twice a month.  In addition, Natalie has a bank of classes you can choose from.  She can also write you a signature class... that is exclusively for you to teach.

Teaching is a great way to give back. Also, it is a great tool to recruit top agents that need molding. Thanks for the post and keep up the great work. Our profession needs it.

Something I always have thought about.  Though, I'm not sure that I have the patience to teach.

Natalie, I totally agree. If you want to learn a subject thoroughly, teach it. I taught the Principles, Brokers and Continuing Ed classes up until about a year ago. My past students still call me every once in a while.
