My Favorite Buyers

Buyers are fun! They are excited, nervous, expectant and fragile. They are making a very big purchase and are completely dependent on me to take care of them. I had one client who always started every email and every phone call with "I'm sorry to bother you, but...." Bother me? That's what I'm here for.

Over the years many have stood out to me as unique...here are some of my favorites.

1) 40-year old self-proclaimed "cat-woman" who needed to make sure there were no "inside holes" her cats could sneak through to get out. That was a funny home inspection.

2) The couple who filed for divorce in the middle of the escrow and then proceeded to fight over who got to keep the NEW house.

3) An older...very active...63 year old woman looking for a single story home with good access "in case she became disabled." A plan for all contingencies.

4) One couple wrote offers on the same house over 2 years and finally got it.

First look...priced at $550,000 we offered $535,000 and were refused.

Second look.....now priced at $609,000 (prices were going up) we offered $619,000 were outbid.

Final look.....now priced at $510,000 (prices went down, first buyer backed out) we offered $489,000 and got it.

Whew.....glad that worked out!!! They are very happy...but mostly, they just wanted the house.

Hi Karen: That number 4 was amazing - it was 2 years in total - what time line between offers?

The timeline was we started looking in March 2006...wrote the first offer on the house in April. The next offer came in March 2007 and they closed escrow in February 2008. I should also say it's an historic house built in 1919. So great! But funny story...

And...for the Anti-Realtors...each offer was based on the market conditions as the time. Some were under asking and one was over. Each time they wanted to be in a position to get the house.
