POSTAGE RATES ARE ON THE RISE AGAIN EFFECTIVE 5/11/2009
On May 11, 2009, the U.S. Postal Service will implement a new postage rate increase for the majority of mail services including First-Class Mail®, First-Class International®, Postcards and Special Services. Here is a summary of the USPS 2009 postage rate increase:
- The price for one-ounce First-ClassTM stamps has increased to $0.44 from $0.42.
- On January 18, 2009, the U.S. Postal Service increased pricing for shipping services by an average of 5 percent. Prices were adjusted for Express Mail, Priority Mail, Parcel Select, Parcel Return Service and some international shipping products.
According to the USPS website:

The Forever stamp will always be valid as First-Class postage on standard envelopes weighing one ounce or less, regardless of any subsequent increases in the First-Class rate. The stamp art depicts the Liberty Bell, which is perhaps the most prominent and recognizable symbol associated with American independence. Over the years, the historic significance of the bell's message has transcended our national borders, and today the Liberty Bell is an international icon of freedom. Replicas of the Liberty Bell exist in all fifty states and the District of Columbia.
I for one am always looking for ways to save a few dollars. So, I ordered a bunch of the forever stamps. Not only do you save money you can buy the stamps on line and for a $1.00 fee they will deliver them to you Priority Mail and you save on gas money also.
Postage increases are also a great way to stay in contact with your sphere of influence. I always mail them a letter and include some $.02 stamps so they have them handy to use with any old rate stamps they have laying around. This letter is always a hit and someone always calls to thank me for the stamps and comment on how clever I am! Gotta love all that for $.20 for 10 stamps!!
