PLEASE...at least paint!

If you are selling your home or just looking for a fresh update, you must consider painting.

Those white walls that you've been living with have no personality and no warmth.

Look at the difference in these before and after photos.

Nothing was changed in the home EXCEPT for the paint color.

This homeowner wanted a simple, quick change and paint was the answer.

She called Dream Interior Redesign and Staging for a color consultation and we selected a warm neutral.

Now the white trim, shutters, fireplace, furnishings and artwork feel more showcased.

We painted the entire open concept dining area, living room and adjoining foyer and hallway.

The homeowner is thrilled and wants other rooms changed very soon.

This simple change resulted in a much warmer feeling from the moment guests enter this home.

Painting does NOT have to be disruptive, expensive or a hassle.

Whether preparing your home for selling or updating your home for dwelling, painting can give you a big bang for your buck.

You are 100% correct -- I just got through "preaching" to realtors -- don't advise your clients to paint white or "builder beige"!  Both of them lack warmth and a darker color is so much richer!  It's a richness everyone can afford!

Thanks Margaret, I don't totally understand why something as simple as paint can feel like such a giant hurdle.  And you're so right, it often feels like "preaching".  I appreciate the comments.

Ginger I agree - paint makes a HUGE difference.

The right color adds another layer to the rooms design and helps to unify the furniture and accessories if chosen correctly. And you certainly did!

Do you have a standard neutral you use? I always err on the side of light rather than dark. I don't think I've found my perfect color that works every time yet.

So much better Ginger.  New paint and carpet are great ROI's when selling.

Hi Tessa,

Yes this is locally known by painters as "Ginger's neutral".  Actually it's a Glidden color (ICI paints) but I don't always use the Glidden brand.  It's their "Water Chestnut" and it's featured in Glidden's color folder for neutrals.

It is a very light neutral but honestly it works everywhere.  Even clients that are afraid of anything but white love this color.  I've used it for 7 years with both warm and cool focused rooms.  In this client's room it took on a more cocoa color but in a commercial office setting it appears to have more yellow in it and in another high-end home it took on more orange tones.   I love using it with bolder colors for focal walls when clients are willing.

I've never had a client that didn't like it.

Thanks for commenting.

Cathy, agreed 100%.  This paint job was a surprise for the client and she didn't even notice it immediately, then she loved it.  Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Hi Ginger ~ This paint color made a cold, stark space into a warm and inviting home ... what a great transformation.  I take it these folks are staying in their home?  It would work just as well for staging and I'm glad you mentioned the color.  I'm going to add it to my list of preferred staging colors ... thanks!

Aloha Maureen,  I have used this color in almost every situation and it surrounds me now here in Hawaii.  My focal walls add the accent color and water chestnut takes on the tones of those colors.  One of the painters that I use actually calls it Ginger's color when he's placing an order at our local hardware store.  Mahalo for your comments.

Very warm and inviting.  It reminds me of Wise owl...Kelly Moore...have to try some and see if they are close.

Thanks Ginger!  I will put that color in my "book". A color that works with cool or warm colors is just what I have been looking for.

Terrylynn...good eye.  I know Wise Owl because it was the color for our local realtor association office.  This color is lighter and has less brown in it.  Wise owl is a great color too.  Thanks for commenting.

Tessa, you are welcome.

Ginger ~ It never ceases to amaze me the power of paint to warm up a space.  I can never understand why some homeowners are still afraid to take the plunge and graduate from white and builder beige.  Your b/a photos are especially effective in demonstrating this since nothing is changed but the wall color and the transformation is dramatic.  Great job!

Thank you Mary.  The fact that I only painted was why I wanted to post this example, especially on Localism.  I find it really frustrating trying to convince potential clients of how much difference JUST paint can make...IF it's not just another white.  I appreciate your comments.

Sandi, thanks for commenting.  You're so right.  This "change" is barely noticeable but so much warmer.

Really is amazing isn't it. Imagine with a small budget what you could have done.

Think I would have gone for dinning room chair covers to cover the dated set and tone down the wood. Just my thoughts.

Liz this was not a staging.  The owner just wanted to "consider" a new paint color and this was the result.  Thanks for commenting.
