ROCKVILLE - DERWOOD MAP WITH SHADY GROVE METRO STATION

METRO History. 103 miles of commuter convenience, the DC/VA/MD Metro system offers clean, fast transportation to suburban locations to DC. 103 miles of rapid transit with plans to expand the system to Dulles International Airport. Construction began in 1969 and the first trains ran in 1976. Metro is very popular with federal government employees since parking in DC is limited and costly. Businesses pay premium rents to locate close to Metro stations in DC and in the suburban stations.
