"You should see the other guy"

I forget the movie, but I think it’s in a few of them.  Guy #1, says to Guy #2, “You look terrible.”  Guy #2 raises his eyebrows and says, with a grin, “you should see the other guy.”

Today, I feel like the other guy.

Maybe because it’s raining, or because Saturn is in retrograde.  All I know is, to quote Norm from Cheers, “it’s a dog eat dog world and I’m wearin’ milk bone underwear.”

Now don’t get me wrong.  I am usually very positive.  I pride myself on being a positive leader and helping people achieve their goals.  Today, though?  Today I just wanna hide under the bed.

And it’s not even market related.  My office just had a killer month in April - one of the best in the last 24, so it’s not like I’m depressed over that.  No, I just think I’m feeling funky.

So what do I do?  Hide?  Scream?  Pretend I’ve got a cough or something so people won’t think I’ve lost it?

I don’t think so.  One of the best pleasures I’ve had in my role as a leader is that the culture of the office matches me pretty well.  You see, we’re all kinda funky in our own way.  With my agents, I don’t need to hide.  Within the walls of our lil’ Chevy Chase office, I can be just as weird, depressed, and crazed and know it’s safe to be so.  Sound scary?

Well, maybe a little.

But what I think is really cool about it is that our corkiness - or our unique signature, is what makes the offices we call home special.  Isn't it?  But on the other hand, if you find that you are in an office that doesn’t accept you for you than you need to ask yourself.

With friends like this, who needs enemenies?*

Because, if you don't feel safe, what are we doing anyway?

Well I think we all have those days, and quite frankly, I think you are handling quite well.  At least you can admit to it and recognize it for what it is..a bad day.  Love your name!
