Photoshop Tutorial - Creating a Frame in Photoshop CS

A Simple Way To Create Frames For Photos In Photoshop CS

                       African Lions

First, open a photo in Photoshop - How about a 300 pound, 40 year old Silverback Gorilla? (I seem to have a 'thing' for these bad boys lately...)

Or, if you're feeling tame, a listing photo you'd like to use on a flyer or brochure.

Then, click on Image>Canvas size

Photoshop Tutorial

Then, in the drop down box, choose 'pixels'

Width and Height fill in '50'

Leave 'Relative' checked

Leave 'other' as-is.

And 'Canvas Color' as Black (click on the black box to change the color)

Click OK

Your photo should now look like this:

Now, follow the same steps again, making these changes:

(note the change to 'white' in the color box!)

You should now have something looking like this:

OK, one more time, and change the settings as seen below:

Click OK, and save your photo!

Now that you have the basics, experiment with different size frames by adjusting the numbers (remember the two numbers for each step, width and height, should match), and different color frames by changing the color within the box. Have fun!

Very easy to follow, which is just what I need.  I am learning about Photoshop one lesson at a time here in the Rain.  I don't like wasting time trying to figure out how to do something.  I need it shown to me.  Thanks, I love this!

Thank you Maureen! Happy to share!

Richard, you are right, it does look intimidating - one of those things you have to go after one step at a time :) I've posted several PS tutorials - go have a look and see if there is anything else you might like!

Hi Debi,

Great tip. I like the ones that are quick and easy for people to learn. But I think I like the idea of a virtual tip jar just as much!  ; )

This is intersting.  I will have to try this.  I usually load my photo into a word doc and use borders to frame.  When I change the position to wrap with text and save the html doc, it saves the photos in the size I set with a frame attached.
