Are Realtors® An Endangered Species?

Only on an early Saturday morning will we roam the coastlines of Oahu in search of subjects to snap a picture of.  Something so beautiful that piques the interest of a memorable event to view for years to come.

This past Saturday was one of those times. We stopped at Laniakea Beach on the North Shore of Oahu hoping, wishing and straining our necks to look beyond the trees to the sand below. WooHoooo!  There she was basking in the sun. With cool trade winds blowing and a once in awhile wave that came up on the shore to give her a spritzer she was surely enjoying her ‘private' beach.

The Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle is called the "Honu" (ho new) and they come up on shore to rest and relax during the Spring and Summer months.  The Honu is an endangered species and 90% of them contract a virus known as Fibropapillomatosis that cause fibroid tumors in the neck, throat, eyes and mouth and eat away from the inside of the turtle.

The HONU have roamed the seas for over 200 million years.

vital real estate agentRealtors® have roamed our neighborhoods since The NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® was founded as the National Association of Real Estate Exchanges on May 12, 1908 at the YMCA Auditorium in Chicago, IL.

The Code Of Ethics was adopted in 1913 with the Golden Rule as its theme and in 1998 the Public Awareness Campaign was launched to educate the public about the vital role we play in a real estate transaction.

I AM a vital part of the Real Estate Transaction because I will go above and beyond to ensure my clients will go through a smooth and successful transaction from start to finish.

We have heard the good and the bad and the downright horror stories of some of the experiences the consumers have had and we've heard the ones where there is nothing better than the Realtor® that represented them through the sale or purchase of their home.

I am NOT a part of the dying breed.

I am on the side that sleeps VERY well at night.

Woo Hoo, I wanted you know I came by and saw these great photos and I also of course read the post. Endangered species? With 1 in 3 people with a real estate license here in CA, that would be hard to fathom. I think the tortoise is the one that needs the empathy.

Sally - It's all in the numbers ... the number of people who have been in the business and the number of years those numbers have been in the business. We were an endangered species in the early years of our careers.

I don't think we are dead or dying. There may be certain things changing but for those who adapt will still survive.

As fast as realtors are leaving the business, we are truly seeing a survival of the fittest in this market.

Rosalinda: I believe that there are also ones who left due to finances...which is certainly understandable. the good apples are what I was thinking about. :)

Ann: If we all had good morals and values then we'd have a strong 'species'. There wouldn't be any bad media attention. If we ALL went above and beyond.....ah, but a dream. :)

Nanette: Of course we can hope...teach...help ...to educate the new agents in our industry....to give them some of what we have :)

Claudia: Well, that's one thing I don't really believe. Too much liablity.

Lisa:  In contrast to the turtle....I don't believe I am....more should stand up and say the same....and why :)

Tim and Pam: Yup...I don't believe so either....

Katerina: As is other parts of the industry....and the picture is of the turtle in the background...me in the front....taking the lead!  lol.

Jeff: Wondered if anyone would notice....she looks like a rock (and it is a she lol)

Gary: Good....someone caught that part too...thanks Gary...we are vital....and most are very professional agents....who do for the best interests of their clients.

Linda: Hey girl!  And I can't see you doing anything else ... :)

Andrea: the bad thing is that it's not only the disease....it's nets, and plastics and fishing lines that are choking and suffocating these wonderful creatures....same goes for others like our Hawaiian Monk Seal.  More of us need to stand up .....and say what it is we are doing....right...for a continuuing industry that the consumer needs to be reminded of...we are vital to their transaction.

William: Goodness! 1 in 3?  I can't fathom that!  And we all empathize with our endangered species here. Especially after The MURDER of "Honey Girl"

Fran: This is actually one of the younger ones...the real old one that frequented this beach was murdered last year.

Kathy: Good point too. That, finances and of course the bad apples who have left in droves. What I was trying to get at was the good vs. the bad apples.

Hey Greg: Dang...isn't it? lol. I don't believe so either.

Thesa: All the good ones breathe life into our industry :)

Laura: We need to tell the world what we do...how we do it...and why we are vital to the industry.

Barb: Get the word out :)

Brad: We also see the not so fit as well...the dying breed/endangered species is the professional who brings good media attention to our industry.

Laniakea is also a great place to surf!  It's interesting how the turtles love to stay in that small cove area.

hi Sally, the only thing constant in life is change. It seems to be hitting every industry & profession faster than before because of the net. Those of us who adapt & use it to our advantage will survive & thrive. I think that applies to real estate, art and even cookie vendors. ;-) I love the honu pics BTW!

Lil Bro: Ah.....the wonder of the voiced opinion...it WOULD do wonders for us all...to be a part of for the cause :)

Hey Rebecca: Oh...maybe not this time :)

Hawaii: Yup....back in the 70's it was my spot to sun...while the boyfriend was out catching a few :)

marti: That's it marti.  And for the cookies...have you tried those golden oreos?
