I need to get a new Cell Phone Provider, but Who?

Ok, this is a stretch.  Being a "Man", we don't ask for directions and we don't ask for help.  So Guys, do for give me.

My current Cell provider is discontinuing the service. (Qwest)  They are teaming up with Verizon.  I have checked into many plans and the costs vary greatly.   But my biggest concern is area of coverage.  Most of the major companies boast that they have the best.

So my question is...Who are you using?  Are they as good for coverage as they say?  Is the cost comparable to most other major companies?

The type of phone is not a problem, but being up in the North Woods can be a challenge.  but so can being in the city and some large buildings.

Any help would be great.

Thanks!

I have AT&T, I was with Cell One then Cingular and now AT&T.  I think everyone has complaints about their provider.  I get a great deal with AT&T and a lot of people I talk to also have AT&T so there's no minutes used there and I get to keep the minutes I don't use for a rainy day when I need them (I now have 3500 minutes saved).  My son has T-Mobile and hates it, he had Sprint before that and hated that even more.  My daughter has T-Mobile and is complacent about it - they have spotty coverage.  So, who knows.  I've heard good things about verizon but then I have coverage in places they don't. I don't know what the answer is, in the meantime I am sticking with them.  AT&T has a small business plan where you can get an 8% discount on your service for joining and you can pass that along to all the agents in your office who are on that plan too.  Good luck.

This area we have little to no coverage.  I use US Cellular but I think I not the best judge of plans and service.  Good luck.

Bill, I have AT&T we pay for a minute package and then each other person is 9.99 per month.  Step son gets 3000 text messages a month for another ???.  You might go over that limit right?  LOL.  I think a better question to ask is 'who has problems with reception in your area'.  The more towers in your area, the better the reception.  I live in a more populated area than you I believe and we have towers every 50 feet probably.  Also, don't take the cheapest phone either.  I've noticed the cheaper phone - the crappier the reception also.  I had a RAZR and now one from LG.  The LG is better unfortunately even though Motorola is just down the street here in Schaumburg.

Bill, I have had Verizon for a LONG time, I tried to switch once to Nextel and it was HORRIBLE and they even refunded my money the service was so bad. I have never, NOT had a signal when some one else has, and I have often had a signal when others have not. The only exception to this is out of the Country. I think this may be fixed now, but a few years ago only ATT worked in Europe.

I have had Verizon for years and really have no complaints except of course the cost for any of the providers.

I have ATT. In my area they have the best coverage--and that's the key. You'll have to verify the coverage for whichever services you consider. I'd also get them to agree that you can return the phone within a specified time if the service area doesn't work for you.

I have AT&T, and also have a love-hate relationship with them.  My biggest pet-peeve is that I have bundled my internet, cell and lan line together, and I can't make head or tails out of their bills.  They look like one giant shell game!

I had TMobile for many years, but switched to AT&T because I love roll over minutes.  As you said your concern has to be the best reception in your area.  AT&T and some of the other companies will let you test drive the service for a few days, at least they used to!  Check that out.

Bill, I am one for coverage.  I have unicel right now and it is spoty at best.  Let me know who you decide to use and how they are.  My contractis up in 2 months!

I don't know what they are like in your area of the woods, but I have Verizon and I have no complaints about their service. The only place I have ever been that I didn't get reception was Yellowstone National Park and in all honesty, I was happy that I didn't.
