Which certifications do agents need to sell distressed properties?

Original content by Steven Wright

Ok, I am officially back in the blogging saddle again. I am not going to get booted off this time. This time I glued myself to the seat so I can't be bucked off.

This year is my year to get some serious certifications completed. Are any of you feeling the way I am feeling about certifications? I really feel that certifications give me a great refresher and in addition to that helps boost my resume if you will. When I was in IT I was certified to the extreme, MCSE, A+, ITIL and so on. It seems that I cannot get away from the lure of certifications.

My latest cert is the CDPE (Certified Distressed Property Expert) have any of you heard of it? Does anyone have the certification currently?

Here is a summary of the CDPE certification:

"The Developers of the Certified Distressed Property Expert Designation (CDPE) believe that in almost all cases the best person for a homeowner in distress to speak with is a well informed Licensed Realtor® that has the tools needed to help that homeowner find the best solution for their situation. Foreclosure is a devastating financial and emotional process for a homeowner to go through, and in many cases they do so alone and without help of any kind.

An Agent who has earned the CDPE Designation has dedicated their time and effort to understanding the issues distressed homeowners are dealing with. The CDPE Professional is an agent who understands the full range of solutions and is ready to help.
While experiencing financial distress is difficult for any family, the process of finding a real estate professional shouldn't be, Selecting a CDPE agent ensures you are dealing with a professional ready to address your needs."

I would be interested in learning what your thoughts are on this certification. Do you think it is worth it? Or is it just another way to bleed us of money on a yearly basis. I personally see a benefit, but I want to see what the community thinks as a whole. Your comments and input is greatly appreciated.

All the best,
