Only Damage From Grasshoppers Is Visible

Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty 0575737

Crop DamageIn understanding our clients and working effectively with them it is good to remember that

Only Damage From Grasshoppers Is Visible.

In the crop world sometimes prior to harvest for example with soybeans, grasshoppers can invade the crops and all sorts of external damage is visible as the insects nip at the beans.

With people we all are "damaged goods" to a certain extent. We carry hurts and perspectives of the world from the individual roads we traveled. One family I had as buyers had most of the extended family drown in a terrible lake accident.

This "hurt" made them extremely religious, never viewing houses on Sundays, and holding very tightly to the remaining children especially the grandchildren, and putting special importance on family time in general.

Always be aware when working with people that there is depth with all of them. Much which the eye can't see but with building rapport, trust, and just giving your time to them, a loving heart will peel back the many layers to better understand why they are who they are. It will help you so much better to serve the needs that are uniquely theirs.

Sharon: This is an area where patience is VERY good with other people. Give THEM your time.

Matt: Great quotation from Plato.

Paula: Sometimes we never know where people are coming from but if we talked to them enough we start to get some clues.

Mary: I always think of the onion with the peeled layers. Even layers under the thinnest peel. Much to explore.

Hi Gary!  You're so right--just like the driving maniac who speeds by in a flash, angering those in his path--only to find out that he's taking a family member to the ER.  I think that we don't often realize why others are the way they are--simply because they are not like us or don't believe as we do.  The blessing in this world IS that we're all different with a array of experiences to observe and learn from, each and every day!

Very good analogy. In the cycle of human events how we perceive something for face value can run more than skin deep. Thanks for the inspiration.

Hi Gary... so much of the damage and personal circumstances are out of sight and benesth the surface.  They only become evident with time and effort as you suggest!

Gary, so true. I have some right at this very moment, and I respect their needs. There are times we may never find out what is really driving the bus with people, but if we try to change it or stop it, we will only get run over.

Thank you, as always. The check is in the mail for my sessions. :D

Gary, I believe people do their best at all times, even when when they are doing their worst. Always good to think about what it is like to walk in someone else's shoes

Gary only you can drill home such valuable human knowledge with such understandable analogies.

If you judge people, you have no time to love them.

Morning Gary, this such an insightful post you blogged about. Just taking the time to look into the person's eyes and say " I can see you're having a rough day." can go along way.

Gary - Life experiences make us who we are.  Sometimes, we wear them on the outside to be visible, but much more frequently we prefer to stuff them in the backpocket so no one sees them.  But they always influence our thinking and behavior.

Gary, Great post, again.  Everyone carries their own perspective, based on their own experiences, and as you mentioned we must be careful to respect a buyer or sellers wishes.  Often times it does take some time to build the rapport and trust with the client to see who they are.  So true.

Gary, one thing I have always listened to is, "Behind every man, woman and child is a story".

It is up to use to draw that story out and be there for them.

We are all in such a hurry we sometimes forget to listen to our clients "story". If we do take the time the journey will be so much easier!

I statement that always worked for me ... "If I was in your shoes, I likely would have done the same thing". It is rarely for us to judge, and moreso to love and be there for people.

So true.  I have come to a place where I now think we all do the best that we can at any given time. Sometimes our best doesn't seem good enough, right, appropriate, or normal to people who do not know our circumstances.  But if we remember the phrase "but for the grace of God, there go I" then we can offer a more understanding attitude and a measure of kindness to others... even when we don't know fully understand.

Gary - Those people had a great Realtor to rely on when it came to understanding and respecting their hurt and perspective. I have one client who I am currently working wiht who has an amazing story which helps me understand specifically what makes her tick.
