My Two Cents-Postal Rates going UP!

By

My 2 cents worth... Monday, May 11th is the day the postage increases from .42 cents to .44 cents.

Although I am griping and complaining along with everyone else that we are experiencingsending letters yet another postage increase, is this going to affect my mailings and advertising?  Nope.  I believe in direct mail and always get solid leads and sales and that increases my business.

Will it change the quality of service I get from Uncle Sam's delivery system?  No...in fact it may get worse!using email communications

Can I use more email to get the message out?  Absolutely.  I try very hard to use email instead of the post office.  Me and millions of others have shown that email is more effective and the personal touch can be just as effective as a written letter.

My true feeling is I thing the post office should be privatized and split among FedEx and UPS.  The air transportation systems are already in place to move mail.

The delivery and tracking system is there, many of the postal workers will be absorbed into the new mail system if this was implemented.  Most of the existing post office locations would remain.  wasting money

The number of days per week that we get mail should be reduced to five not six.  The reason is simple.  90% of all businesses are closed on Saturday's and they survive just fine getting mail five days per week.  The savings in mail cost from fuel, labor, maintenance and heating and cooling buildings would be in the billions of dollars.

Of course congress would just figure out a way of spending the money on some other useless project but we would be headed in the right direction for one day.

So that's my two cents.  May 11th and the postal service will have your two cent too!  Purchase forever stamps and save your two cents for a little while longer.

What's your two cents?

I know the real pain of it all is going out and getting 2 cent stamps to cover the old ones you have.

All I know is that the mail I get on Saturdays is stuff that goes straight to the trash can, so I would not miss mail delivery on those days!

The post office is a failing system.  The price increases will have to continue and we will have no choice on this necessary evil, unless a better form of direct mail advertising is created.

Thx 4 the post.

Hi Gary~ All the more reason to just buy the "forever stamps" for the stuff you absolutely have to mail! I think your opinion is great!

What a deal. . I give you less than a dollar and you will carry an envelope across the country for me and deliver it to the front door. .

Did you know that back in the early 80's when I used to send money/gifts to my brothers to a country in South America . . we usually lose 1 out of 3 packages and never seen them again because they will be stolen by the postal workers themselves.

We had a trick that worked sometimes. . we marked the envelopes "Medicine, please deliver ASAP"

Later on I found out that our packages coming form the United States were a source of fighting amongst  the workers .,. .who will steal it first.

That's why in the USA . .when I send a package to my brothers now living in the USA . .in another state, I gladly pay the fee. . I know it will get there.

Gary, I forgot all about the two cent increase. I think the Internet is the main cause for postal increases. I'm sure email takes a lot of revenue away from the Post Office. Thanks for the reminder.

It always amazes me that when the general public is suffering from the economy, workers in government and quasi - government monopolies seem to do just fine.

Price on postage stamps keeps on increasing but postal service is getting worst.  My neighbors sometime get my mail and vice versa.  I even got mail from Alabama going to an address in Florida.  I could not figure that one out.  Maybe if they reduce the price, more people will use the postal service instead of email.

If Fedex and UPS could deliver a letter from house to house anywhere in the US for $0.44 and make a profit, they already would be doing it. I think postage prices remain a screaming great deal.
