Lost My Dog.

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker Elite

I had to put my 13 1/2 yr old Black Lab/Shepherd mix down Monday. It was like losing my daughter. I was pretty busy all week so the only time I had to think about it was at night.  Well today her ashes were delivered to me. So all the emotions are rolling again.

Someone sent me a poem on facebook.  Does anyone else have any poems on losing a pet?

Thank you!

Hello Sherry,

I am so sorry for your loss.  I know how hard it can be, we lost 3 elderly pets over the past year.  (2 dogs and a 17 yr. old cat)   I read a great post recently on ActiveRain about losing a pet companion.  I will try and locate it and send it to you.  Take care.

Rita

Hi Sherry,

sorry for your loss.  I lost one last year.  But I comforted myself by saying she would no longer be in pain.

Sherry, my heart goes out to you.  I have an elderly Pomeranian that I am having to give subq fluids to every night.  This has "bought" us 3 months thus far, he has congestive heart failure and kidney failure.  It is so hard to lose a pet - they are family members. I have a poem also that I will find and send to you.  My vet's son had written it when he had lost his beloved pet.  Years ago this vet had come to our house to put my old dog down.  He sent us this poem with a card the next day.  While my husband and I cried and hugged over Spuds, I looked up and Dr. G. had a tear in his eye.  I am welling up now as I think of this.  One week later, Dr. G. died in a horrific farming accident.  I will never forget how tender he was with my Spuds or how good he was to my husband and I. I will find that poem for you and send it.  The Rainbow Bridge is also a very good one. Again, I am sorry for your loss.

I've found that by and large, people with pets live longer, happier, and healthier lives.

I know your loss.  Had to put my dog down last November. My 6th.  Got another.  Be good to yourself, love again with a new pet in a few weeks.

Sherry, I don't have a poem but I give you my condolences.  I know what it's like.  Losing a pet is truly like losing a family member.  I don't have any children yet so my pets are like my kiddos.

Sherry,

Sorry I just found this post and actually just found this group.  My son just went through this and has started a memory page at www.lulusfordogs.com If you clikc on Thanks for the Memories I think you can add your dog.  I did mine, and really felt good.

When I had to put my dog down I really felt I needed therapy to get over it, but it finally gets better.  There is one other very good writing about losing your pet and I will try to find it for you.  It gives you a good cry and flushes things out.

Take care.
