Georgia Governor Signs Home Buyer Tax Credit Bill

Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue, yesterday, signed a Georgia home buyers tax credit on the day before the deadline for his signature. If he had not signed it, the bill would have become the victim of the "pocket veto". Governor Perdue's signature was in doubt but some last minute legislative lobbying and discussions managed to convince the governor to sign the bill.

The bill, HB 261, provides a one time tax credit to the buyers of single family homes, in Georgia between June 1, 2009 and Nov. 30, 2009. It is independant of the federal income tax credit of $8000. The credit is available to all home buyers, not just first time buyers.

The credit amounts to 1.2% of the purchase price, or $1800, whicheve is less. It is granted over a period of three consecutive years.

For more information about how this credit, and the Federal first time home buyers credit can help you purchase a home in the greater Athens area, or if you are interested in selling your home, call me at 706-207-5290 or click here to email me. Good morning Mike,

The state of MO is also looking to do something on this line too but are  dragging their feet right now.

Great for buyers and agents. There is a big push to sell homes to descrease inventory. AZ has about a 10 month supply and trying to get down to 6 months. More foreclosures are on the way

Mike - Nice to know some governors are working.  Our illustrious Nevada governer is busy with dalliances and his divorce.  And I voted for him!  Not next time.
