This celebration of jazz in historic Camden will be a full weekend of workshops, restaurant and nightclub shows, and a concert in the Wood Auditorium, featuring some of the hottest jazz guitarists from around the country. Saturday, May 16. Thunder at Fort Jackson.
This family event, honoring those citizens who made sacrifices to preserve the freedoms we hold so dear, is back for another year! The festival offers a wide variety of events that will interest children, parents, grandparents and friends alike. There is plenty of fun for all with many activities planned for children of all ages - including being able to climb through and handle real Army helicopters, trucks, jeeps and other equipment. Saturday, May 16. Black Expo. This event is a family-oriented event that exposes the community to business opportunities and cultural resources. Business owners have the opportunity to secure exhibitor booths to showcase their products and services. Black Expos are enhanced by including seminars/workshops, health fairs, vendors, national guest speakers, national recording artists, live entertainment, youth activities, and food vendors. Saturday, May 16. Providence Heart & Sole Women's Five Miler. Women of all ages are invited to join the fight by participating in our eighth annual Providence Heart & Sole Women's Five Miler -- an all-women's road race dedicated to raise awareness about heart disease in women. The race begins at 8:30 a.m. at Finlay Park in Columbia, and participants can choose between a five-mile run, five-mile walk or three-mile walk. After the race, unwind at the Fitness Expo and Celebration where you can enjoy heart-healthy snacks, music, a variety of vendor booths and activities, and an awards presentation emceed by Dawndy Mercer Plank of WISTV. Unite with friends, family and hundreds of other women, and help us raise awareness about this number one killer in SC! For more information please visit Heart & Sole Walk/Run. Tuesday, May 19. 6th Annual Lake Carolina Town Center Block Party. The Lake Carolina Town Center Block Party is an annual community-wide celebration that showcases Lake Carolina merchants and features a variety of family-friendly activities. Come and enjoy free fun for your entire family with live music featuring Woodwork Roadshow, a southern rock/bluegrass band. They have opened for famous musicians such as Kenny Chesney, Brooks and Dunn and LeAnn Rimes. There will also be a DJ, children's activities, entertainment, merchant specials and delicious food!
