Hi Jennifer-  I have to say...you are the very reason I found Active Rain a couple of years ago before activating my license.  I was just doing some research on what to do, because as you know....the school doesn't really teach that.  I found many articles and stumbled upon Active Rain....vwa laa!  Thanks!  At that time I was with a Realogy brand.  I have recently switched to Exit Realty...and I love it!   After hearing their business model....it was a no brainer for me.  Exit is becoming the fastest growing real estate company across North America.  It's like Wal-mart......every agent helps build the company and gets a piece of the pie.  A lot of people don't understand it....but after some research....they see it's pretty amazing.  Thanks again for being such a big part of my first couple of years.

This is a good topic for a discussion. I think a lot of new alternative business models will come out of this changing market. My goal is to take my business 100% online. I want to be able to handle the entire transaction from first contact to closing via the Internet. My ideal transaction is to never talk to the buyer and seller.

I can't imagine conducting my business without talking to and meeting my buyers, but everyone has to find his or her own style.  My team opts for going above and beyond with superior service before, during and after the real estate transaction.  It is a people-centered, personalized program that means extra work for the agents, but we do develop some pretty cool relationships and many referrals...not every time, but often enough to make it worth it.

Hi Jennifer, we are starting to explore the auction market . I have a Realtor working for me and when we talked about this, as she was the driving force behind it, She asked how do we make money? My answer was we charge a fee. Silence in the room as all the light bulbs went on. So we are in the early stages but fee for services as they realte to auctions are something we are going to explore and I think do

I don't know if we practice the "alternative business model" but we definitely don't pressure any of our clients.  When we host open home, and we do that about every weekend for our listings, we don't require sign-in or other contact numbers.  We feel that if the buyer is impressed with our knowledge they will contact us again.  We try not only to sell the home but also the community.

Jennifer our company has an alternative business model. We used to have a traditional real estate company prior to 1991, when we decided to make our entire company an Exclusve Buyer's Office. We do one side of the transaction with the buyers as our clients. We have no regrets from making this decison back when it was unheard of to only represent buyers. We were the first in RI to have an EBO.

Georgia - Me, too! I've scheduled a teleseminar on the topic for August 1st... it's part of my Summer of Soul package.

Kathleen - Wow - 1991! That must have been really revolutionary for the time! I'd love to hear more - shoot me an email.

Anja - Well, I'd say that's definitely NOT the norm! An approach after my own heart.

Charlie - I've been hearing more and more about auctions. Keep me posted, okay?

Dianne - that's how I've always run my business and besides being a profitable model, it's certainly more fun that way, doncha' think??
