"Space Bandits": Expel, Eject, Evict!

By
Home Stager

Is your house for sale? Are you moving because your home feels too small? If that’s the case, then buyers who come to view your home will probably feel the same way.

Take a look around, do you have “Space Bandits” stealing your space? Are there things in your home that you could live without, that are hiding the square footage?

Can you see the examples of “Space Bandits” in these before pictures?

Expel, eject, evict them! Give the buyers all the space you can.

Other examples of "Space Bandits" include: TV trays, China Cabinets, Hall Tables, too many bedroom dressers, benches, excessive TV's, books, collectibles, and too many and too much of anything! Give your buyers some space to move in.

In order to sell your square footage, you have to show your square footage.

Peg ~ Your clever staging effectively evicted those space bandits (fun term)!  We often remind our clients that they're selling square footage so let's show it off, it makes for improved traffic flow and allows room to breathe.

Love the term "space bandits"! What did the owners in the first set do with the piano? That always seems a sticky thing to me - you can't just put them in the garage...

Love the stool crazy photo!  How many bar stools do you actually need in a residential home? :-) Much nicer after they were removed.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments. Laurie; you asked about the piano. It was moved out to the garage, and then the movers took it to the sellers new house. (Our policy now is that we don't move pianos on our own...!)

The last picture of the Bonus Room full of boxes: the Realtor was especaially thrilled with that room. He told us afterward that he couldn't picture what could be done with that room. That is what stagers are for!

I have to admit that I love the term "Space Bandits." Reminds me of George Harrison and his financial backing of the film "Time Bandits."

Space Bandits down here in California typically take up residence in our garages:

Oh my gosh Russ, it's just crazy to have a garage like that! I've always thought it was weird that people would fill their garages full of "junk". then let their $40,000 SUV sit in the driveway in the sun or rain and get ruined. Crazy!
