Indianapolis Extreme Makeover Home Edition

For Estridge, Bernard McFarland, those who have benefitted Pack House 2000, the Brightwood-Martindale neighborhood of Indianapolis and the thousands of volunteers who put it all together, the wait is over May 17, 2009 as ABC airs Extreme Makeover Home Edition at 7 pm ET.  The show will feature the collective efforts of thousands who were able to build a two story home with a full basement plus an accessory library building in less than one week.

More than the story of some new buildings is the story of one man's passion to better his community by promoting education.  As the story will continue as others will see what Mr. McFarland has accomplished and how they too can work with local schools, libraries, churches and community organizations to bring hope to future generations.

As one who was able to volunteer, it was encoraging to see the overwhelming response by the community to lend a hand in the construction.  At times it was quite crowded inside the home.  But everybody seemed determined to do what it took to get the job done.  It will be interesting to see the final show and actually see home as it is finished out.

Our hats go off to Paul Estridge and the many people he rallied to turn this project from the drawing board to reality.  As it was noted in the volunteer kick-off rally, these are hard economic times.  Many of those who participated are suffering themselves from difficult economic circumstances.  But the bottom line: they saw a need and an opportunity to participate and they just did it anyway despite the economy.

Be sure to subscribe to this blog.  I will be posting some impressions in a few days after the show airs.  And of course it will be interesting to watch how one very busy week in Indianapolis might be the launch pad for an increase in willing hearts to volunteer to do whatever they can accomplish - whether it be fixing up homes or promoting education and literacy in their communities.

During the week I had the privelege to talk for a few minutes with Paul Estridge.  It was obvious that he was very encouraged to see what was going on before his eyes.
