Google has a new feature called the Google Profile. It links in with your Google account, such as Gmail or Blogger, if you have one. It also will link together all of your websites, social media identities, and email addresses…if you choose to have it do so.
What’s the benefit of this? Increasing your internet hits and smoothing your client’s efforts to find your information are the most important.
Let’s say you have 3 or 4 real estate websites, a social media presence on Twitter, Facebook, or MySpace, a few email addresses, and your blog or blogs. If you link all of these together on your Google profile, a potential client should be able to find them all in one quick simple search. When your profile shows up, they can click on that and find a list of all your sites, blogs, and social media profiles. It will save them time and reduce the likelihood that they will wander onto another agent’s site while they are weeding through the Google hits. Plus, they will see what you choose for them to see.
If you have a rather uncommon name, then you may not see a need for the profile, but what if you have a name that returns hundreds or thousands of results, very few of which are you? Here is a comparison to illustrate. Take Prescott Group co-founder Tricia Allenson. She has an uncommon name, apparently, because a quick Google shows only 11 results, and 10 of them are actually her! Now try that with a more common name. One of our virtual assistants shares her name with a large number of other people, including some popular artists and the ex-wife of a certain rap star. A few weeks ago, a Google of her name came up with page after page of other people. She created a Google Profile. A search today landed her on the first page, albeit at the bottom. Still below the painter and the ex-wife of the famous rap star…but the bottom of the first page is a definite improvement over who-knows-what page!
What page do you land on when you Google yourself or your business? How many results do your clients have to go through to get to the site they are looking for?
