Best Neighbourhood Community

By
Real Estate Agent with Royal LePage State Realty, Brokerage.

Just wanted to talk about my neighbourhood.

I love bragging about the neighbourhood where I live. It has got to be the best community neighbourhood around. I have never seen one like it! Allison Park neighbours have always come together to make it the best neighbourhood as possible. We have come together and participated in events at our own centralized 3 acre park such as Canada Day Celebrations, Easter Egg Hunt, Pumpkin Carving and more. There have also been Contests every year for the neighbours to participate in such as; best decorated house at Christmas and best decorated house at Hallowe'en. The Community also puts on a Golf Tournament. We've helped raise money over the years to provide a Splah Pad, Swings and park climbers for the children to enjoy. Not only do we contibute to our park but we also volunteer and contibute to other causes as well. We are holding a special event, "Yard Sale For The Cure"  on May 26, 2007 to raise money for Breast Cancer Research.

We even have our own website!, http://www.allisonpark.org and a Blog Spot. Check it out!

Do you have some things to share about your community?

I hope our Community can be a model for your Community. Neighbourhoods can be Fun, You just have to make it fun!

Share some your neighbourhood stories, events and photos.

Thanks

Hi Lisa, Allsion Park sounds great.

I too live in a great community.  It is a samll hamlet called Colstream/ Poplar Hill  just west of london.  They are 2 separate area that the main road is about 4 km long.  We have our own christmas parade,  There is an annual school picinc called the Union school picnic that has been going on for 117 years.  Local functions such as trivia night (sold out) that is put on by the Lions, A group called the enviro friends that take care of our consercation area and put on  a gala to raise funds and everyone that can attends.  There are now plans under way to have a number of movie in the park nights throughout the summer.  S mall library.  It is great to be in a neighbourhood such as this.  BBQ's and riding lawn tractor races with trophies.

Above all else they are all great neighbours.  They are there is good times and in bad. You can count on them.

We don't have a website though.

Hi Isabel,

Thank you for your comments.

Sounds like you have a great community as well. Isn't it a good feeling to know that the neighbourhood you live in is nice to come home to.

I LOVE the riding lawn tractor races! What a great idea and fun too I'll bet. I should bring that up to the next neighbourhood association meeting. (If you don't mind)

You know Isabel maybe you should start up a website for your community, You would be the HERO. You can get FREE websites with free subdomains or you can purchase a domain for very little money or ask the community to chip In. They are very easy to set up too. You could have the community advertise garage sales, up coming events etc. etc. and for those who have businesses, what another great way to advertise!

Good Luck to you Isabel

Thanks again,

Lisa

Hi Lisa !

I loved reading about your neighbourhood and the outstanding community spirit to be found there ! You have inspired me to start a blog that is specifically geared towards the neighbourhood that I live in in Belleville. It is called The Old East Hill.  I have made up the template, etc but haven't yet had a chance to put my first post on there....as soon as I do I will post the link here on AR and on my website .  What a fantastic website your community has !  Thanks for sharing....it is nice there are still communities like this in Ontario....kind of like the old days .    Jo

How fantastic!  I envy the community spirit that you have!  I'm a bit sorry to say that since Brampton has grown so quickly, I think we've lost some of that "stick together"-ness.  My immediate neighbourhood is great -- everybody knows everybody, but on the whole, I think we may have lost that feeling a bit.  I'd love to know how to get it back and nuture it!

Congrats to your community, it looks like a great place to live and work!

Sounds like a great place to live!

We had a great neighborhood in Oakville, it's called Lakeshore Woods - it too had it's own website and community gatherings.  Our street in particular was amazing!  We would have huge fireworks displays, garage sales, amazing christmas and halloween decor - and the huge bonus is our entire street was filled with children all the same age (imagine little barbie jeeps taking over the street!!)

We have since moved to a new subdivision, with very few homes on our street but from speaking with our new neighbours it sounds like we will be enjoying the same type of neighbourhood we did in oakville!  There is nothing better than living in a community where everyone shares a common interest!
