What Will We Do?

A pet is a delight!  For those who have pets, it's easy to understand how these animals are true treasures and how they can become 'family members' very quickly!  There's something about a faithful pet and how they help make bad situations better.  For many, the family pet provides so much love and companionship.  We wonder how we ever got along without our pets.

Some of you may remember Clementine, the white/yellow lab mix puppy we adopted in early January.  What a sweetheart!  She is truly one of those treasures!  Clementine has a delightful disposition and loves to play.  She has been so easy to train and has been following verbal commands since soon after she became a member of our family! We are blessed with her!

In these hard economic times, it is important to help people in need.  We must also remember that when families are cutting budgets and living on a shoestring, they have animals - family pets that need help too.  People are making difficult decisions about providing for their pets.  Our animal shelters and humane societies take those pets that families are unable to care for.  How terrible it must be for someone to lose not only their home but also their pet because of job loss, foreclosure, and generally difficult economic times!

Do something today to help!  Find a way to help a person in need - volunteer, donate, do whatever it takes!  And while you're at it, look in your phone book for the local animal shelter or humane society.  Do something to help a homeless animal, too.  You might foster a pet that needs a home or volunteer your time.  If you can't do that, offer to make a contribution for food or other needs.  Not just those folks in economic needs but also their pets need our help! Find a way to help today!

Bruce and Mary, Thanks for the post! I can not imagine what it would feel like to have to make a decision such as having to get rid of the family pet, and God willing I never will. My family donates two large bags of dog food every month to our local shelter.

Dan - It breaks my heart what people are having to go through with the economy.  It also breaks my heart about their animals!  Thanks so much for what you do and for your comment, too!

Tough times for many.  You are spot on that we must assist others where we can.  Many times the victims are the family pets.

You are so right Tim & Pam!  And the pets are victims just as many home owners are!

You have a sweetheart of a doggie there --  and yes, we all need to do everything we can to help the shelters.

Great looking dog Mary.  You are right on about pets being in distress in these difficult times.  All our shelters are overflowing and every one is working hard on getting some adoptions.

Hello Bruce & Mary,

Clementine is a beautiful pup!  Thank you for adopting her!  Your post was very touching and meaningful.  It is all so sad what the ecomony is doing to people and their pets.  We all need to help where we can.  Thank you for your post and putting the word out.

You can imagine that there must be a lot of heartbreak in families who have to give up their homes and their pets too.  What is even worse is the number of pets that are just being left behind to fend for themselves when the owner leaves.  We just rescued a cat who had been left behind and after a few days of R&R at our house she went to a local rescue organization.  Unfortunately we couldn't keep her because we are maxed out for our current condo rules.

Wouldnt it be nice if everyone could pitch in and help those poor animals?  Wish I could, my house is overflowing at the moment!
