Small Town Life In Texas..Don't you Love it?

This afternoon some good friends called us up and asked my wife and I to join them for dinner at a local cafe.   Knowing that we were both hungry, and that we really enjoy the couple's company we immediately said "Yes!"  This would be great because we hadn't yet tried this new cafe. We arrived at the restaurant with just enough time to cook a steak.  The decor was " simple country" my favorite!  The waitresses call everyone including women "Honey."  Didn't matter though , as I was here for the chow and  not the atmosphere.  My meal came out quickly and the food was really good.  Then as she was finished she thanked us all and then said.....

"Listen up folks!  My Moma-n-Law  has chickens ,  ya know....layin' hens , and she gets eggs every mornin'.  We normally ask a dollar a dozen but it is almost closin time so ya'll jest grab as many eggs as you want .,,,,no charge. We all smiled and thought '"Are we in country heaven?"

Have a prosperous week!

Trey - Ya gotta love country livn' where pretentions are left at the curb.  When I first came to town 32 years ago I had lunch in a local restaurant.  Coming from Tahoe I thought I was in the sticks.  I knew it when after the meal the waitress came up and asked, "Well, did you get full?"  A friend of mine had a similar experience when he came to town in '71.  Drove up to the gas pump and asked them to fill it - "Can you leave it?" was the response.  True stories.  Times have changed - we have self-serve gas stations and fast food restaurants, but people are still genuine.  Thanks for sharing.

Hubs and I were lunching one day in a local cafe, in a former "hometown".  Man came to our table and asked hubs if he was a banker. No. Preacher? No. Who are you? School superintendent. "Oh" he says, "You are the only man in town I've seen with a necktie on!". A year later, same cafe, man walks up to our table. "You must be the superintendent!", "Yes", hubs says, "My friend told me when he visited here last summer you were the only guy who wears a tie in this town!". Love small town life....
