My Grandma Wears Funky Glasses

By
Real Estate Sales Representative

"My Grandma wears funky glasses and I helped pick them out." ..... Joseph

My three young grandsons were called to help their grandmother pick out her new glasses at the optometrist's office. There were all shapes and sizes. some were big and round, some were oval, some old fashioned and some very modern. I wanted something that would reflect on me, my personality, my perspective on life. They had to be different and yet distinguished, Something that would help portray an image of who I was.

Given the opportunity, my three grandsons had their own visions of what I should be wearing. Something a little bit out of the ordinary. Something that reflected how they saw me not how I thought the world should see me.

Knowing I required a special tinted prescription for a very rare eye condition, called Benign Essential Blepharospasm (BEB), they felt something a little bit funky was in order. What they helped choose has raised a few eyebrows and questions from my generation and received complimentary comments from the younger generation.

Special Prescription Glasses for blepharospasm

BEB is rare neurological condition in which there is an involuntary blinking of the eyelids as well as episodes of eyelid closure (spasms) that may be forceful and sustained.

"blepharospasm is often initially mis-diagnosed as allergies or "dry eye syndrome". It is a fairly rare disease, affecting only one in every 20,000 people in the United States." From Wikipedia

Hi Sylvie - Next week has been declared Benign Essential Blepharospasm Awareness Week by Toronto Mayor David Miller so I thought I would help by talking a little about why I wear them

Kathy, I have never heard of BEB, but I'm going to read more about it.

I hope BEB Awareness week brings not just awareness but also research dollars.

Sylvie - it is rare enough that it often goes misdiagnosed especially in the early stages.

Robert - so did a smash and grab artist ... my car was broken into the other day and the thief took my glasses along with a few other items ... I imagine he/she will be quite surprised to find they can not use them as they are prescription glasses.
