The Painted lady

Purple house. Norfolk granby streetSince I moved to Hampton Roads, I have been a faithfull patron of "The Painted Lady".  It closed a couple of months ago.  As I was doing errands in Norfolk with my son, I couldn't help feeling the emptiness of a place where I took all my relatives from out of town, who made fun of the outside color. I held baby showers, and was invited to other friends celebrations.  Needless to say, I was very surprised to see that it had closed down.  I don't know the details but I imagine the down turn in the economy had something to do with it.  So If you drive by Granby and 17th street, and see the purple house, know that is now an empty building.

In it's old gift shop they have opened a place called.

"Weltons Seafood".  When I recover, I will probably go and check it out.

THE PAINTED LADY IS OPEN AGAIN, UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT. Will have to check it out.

Tere, We recently moved from Norfolk and have eaten at the Painted Lady many times. When we left there were rumors that the restraunt was changing ownership so I think they closed for awhile while all that process happened. I don't think it was because business was slow because you pretty much needed reservations most nights in order to get a table.

Dan, I had not been there for a few months, so I wasn't sure what was going on.  There has been many a time when I showed up in the afternoon to be sent away because they are full.  I hope the new management keeps the flavor of the place.  Tere

I too have seen some of my favorite stores close because of this economy and really is sad, when the small companies close and the big companies get bailed out, just because they are big.
