Defiance Ohio is proud of another of our local hometown national hero's, Alan Francis. Alan
is the undisputed king of horsehoe pitching earning 14 NHPA world title wins. Approximately
1,320 players participate in the world championships. Alan and his wife, Amy, are both avid pitchers.
Amy has participated in her share of championships also.
Last week Good Morning America held their "Backyard Olympics." Experts in different sports were
invited to instruct anchors: Diane Sawyer, Robin Roberts, Chris Cuomo and Sam Champion. Alan and
Amy were recruited to participate by the shows producer to appear on Wednesday mornings broadcast,
providing their expertise on horseshoe pitching.
No local athlete has been as successful at what they do best than Defiance's own Alan Francis.
