First, a little bit about me. I have studied Internet marketing, SEO and have been gainfully employed in the hi-tech sector for the 10 years prior to me joining the real estate industry. I have been and agent for almost 4 years and recently (OCT 08) opened our own brokerage shortly after obtaining my Real Estate Broker's License. I have also recently obtained my Mortgage Broker's License as well.
My Wife and partner (Patricia) and I have made a great living in a city where we have lived for the past 5 years selling real estate. We didn't know many (any?) people, we don't have family here and we have depended on the Internet to bring us buyers and sellers. In fact we can track 95% of our business comes directly from our web presence. How did (do?) we do it? I am about to tell you!
Writing original content for our websites, optimizing each page with tags and links (I won't get into the nitty gritty here - there are tons of forums about SEO specifics), writing articles about the real estate and housing market in our local area (and posting them in a few good sites), pay per click campaigns, keyword research and never typing in our domain name - always search it (Google, Yahoo etc.) with the keywords you are trying to rank for and then click through every page until you see your site. You will need to do this often, but it works - takes time - but like everything else it is but a small (important) piece of the puzzle.
Writing articles will give you, the Realtor, a way to gain respect and notoriety in the industry regarding your local market. Eventually, people will come to know you not because of your HUGE BILLBOARD ADS (have they broke you yet?) but because of the knowledge and expertise you demonstrate on a daily, weekly, monthly basis. If there is one thing I have come to hold true is that the consumer craves information, statistics and stories of what is selling and who is buying.
You can have your articles posted on your local real estate website easily and for free! (Just click that link!)
