Summer fun Tips Part 1, avoiding car trouble

Projects and Preparations for the spring/summers months--recreational.

The first checkup would be vehicle maintenance.  Hot summer months are coming upon us, have you car troublegiven your vehicle a checkup..Air conditioner..fluid level checked, tire pressure?

Giving your vehicle the once over is more than preventative maintenance.  You could be making the difference between having a great time on a weekend excursion and sitting on the side of the road stranded.  Those may be memorable memories but I will bet they won't be categorized as fun.

Fan belts are the #1 item overlooked as a car ages.  If it works don't mess with it.  In the case of a fan belt...if it breaks your car overheats and could cause significant damage to your engine.  The cost of a fan belt has a wide range.  Depending on the model of car you sometimes can make the change yourself.  I have long given up on working on the new cars.  The manufacturers have designed them to minimize how much work you can do yourself without special tools and lifts.

when the car stopsFirst time wash /wax to look good for the start of the season.  I use my first time wash and wax as a time to look for rust, check break lines.  I lift the hood and wax the edges of the hood.  That give me time to look at fluids and make sure washer fluid and brake fluids are at proper levels.  Caution should be used if you are going to check your radiator.  If your engine has been running you could sustain some nasty burns if you don't let the engine cool down before checking the radiator.  Most newer cars now have a reservoir to hold radiator cooling fluids.

Air conditioning units have to be check by a professional.

Take the time give your vehicles a once over and and have a great summer!

Nothing worse than not being prepared ready to go enjoy the summer months and become stranded because of car trouble.

See you on the highway not beside it!

A good blog and one that makes us all look at our car for tune-ups.  You are right -- it is a good way to start the summer.
