Intoxicating Aroma

Lilacs are so delightful!

The aroma is so intoxicating, you can smell them from quite a distance.

They make a beautiful green natural screen throughout the spring, summer and fall months.

They do lose their leaves in the fall like so many of our trees and shrubs.

They reproduce quickly and are very easy to transplant.

Even a tiny little lilac will produce a flower or two.

As they grow, they can turn tree like, and in a good year, they have tons of beautiful flowers. Some years a storm reduces their blossoming time, but this year has been GREAT!

Take time to smell the flowers!

I really miss lilacs here in GA - we just don't have enough cold for them to do well.  We do have crepe myrtles that almost make up for the lack of lilacs!

The most beautiful lilacs I've ever seen were in Cody, WY in May.  I'm sure they are just as awesome in MI.

Marilyn,

I was just going to ask how they do in the heat...but saw Diane's comments about the cold...

so, maybe not so much in South Texas!

Beautiful post !

Paul & Diane, They are beautiful and this year was really good - some years a storm comes along and shortens their bloom time, just like in the fall - some years the colored leaves last for weeks and other years their beauty is shortened by a big storm that rips them off the trees and throws them on the ground!

Sheila, Would love to see TEXAS some day! (Thanks to Paul & Diane for answering your question) and Thank-you for your comment!

Nice to look at but on days like yesterday where my eyes swelled shut because of allergies they are nice to look at through the living room window. (LOL)
