The U.S. Census Bureau recently released data on Brazos County, Texas. Apparently the data showed that the population had seen an increase of over 4,000 from 2007 to 2008.  By July 2008 the total population was at 175,122.  The city of College Station had 90,897 compared to  73,972 in Bryan.  Bryan and College Station are twin cities in Brazos County. The county has grown from approximately 153,000 in 2000' to 175,000 in 2008, representing a fairly good increase.

Hi Trey... Just out of curiousity, has the ratio % between Bryan and C.S. remained fairly constant or is one of the two growing at a faster pace?

Hi Trey, That sounds like a pretty substantial increase and should be good for the local economy.

What is attracting people to the area?  Or is it people are spending 6 years in school instead of 4 and that population counts?

College Station is now moved ahead of Bryan. When I was young Bryan wqas twice the size of College Station.

Shirley

It is good for the economy. The unemployment rate here has been fairly low for a long time.

Many retirees are moving here. I personally have sold several new homes to Austin retirees who were fed up with the traffic and discovered they can have any medical treatment right here. We now have 4 hospitals and 5 golf courses , plenty of dining and entertainment and a little international flair.  The primary magnet has always been the University.  Research oriented business specializing in gene research (cloning) , aerospace , and homeland security focused on agricultural and biological issues have made this home.

Our nickname is "Research Valley"  There is plenty of fiber optic now so other computer based firms have moved in.....good source of employees right here with Texas A and M.

And the Bush Library has helped. Yes  many students are here. The 10th largest campus now. But many finsh undergrad in 3 years and masters in 2 or less so most are out in 3 to 5 which is less than 6.    LOL     You know what they call an Aggie when he graduates?    BOSS!
